OSP Models

OSP Platform

Primal Technologies has tapped its extensive industry experience in both the Telecom Engineering and Information Technology domains to develop this new-concept service vehicle. Modular hardware and software enable the development and deployment of customized telecom services in months, not years, without compromising the reliability requirements of the telecom industry community. The result is that service providers have the ability to offer and evolve innovate services in their market at a competitive price.

The hardware chassis for the Primal Open Services Platform is offered in the entire range of Sun Microsystem systems allowing the ideal price to performance fit for almost any network. Primal's selection criteria are based on: interconnect type, number of ports, CPU usage and disk storage.

The OSP's scaleable architecture allows for growth in the number of voice interface cards, the number of CPUs and the amount of storage required. Multiple applications can operate on the same platform, allowing low cost expansion into new services for service providers.

The hardware chassis for the OSP is offered in five major models. The selection requirements are based on: interconnect type, number of ports, and disk storage. For details on the hardware specifications refer to the Documentation Center.

Primal's modular architecture allows OSP applications to inter-operate with the many different trunk and signaling interfaces that exist today. These interfaces include: TCAP, ISUP, MF, PRI, and VoIP. The OSP operates within an Intranet or Internet environment allowing the support team and service operator (based on security levels) to access the system for system monitoring.

OSP Software Architecture

The OSP software is modular in design and consists of three main components: the Open System Software (OSS), the OSP Middleware and the OSP Applications. With this three-component strategy Primal or 3rd Party Developers can customize OSP applications quickly and effectively.

  • OSP Open System Software — base layers

Consistent with the OSP's open concept is the base operating system layer using industry standard offerings. Sun Solaris has become the dominant operating system in the telecom arena and is used as the OSP's OS. The OSP also supports industry standard SQL databases such as Informix and Oracle. This allows the use of easy and familiar methods for the retrieval of information from the OSP. Apache provides OSP connectivity to corporate Intranets or the Internet. Using this access method allows profile and OSP system changes to be made via the Internet or Intranet.

  • OSP Middleware

Primal Technologies has developed the OSP Middleware, shared by all OSP applications. This Middleware is what sets the OSP apart from other telecommunications platforms. It is an integrated environment for the rapid development of telecom applications. The actual coding of the OSP application is more modular and streamlined by using standard OSP Middleware system calls rather than being built from scratch with each new application. The resources available to the applications via the OSP Middleware include:

    • Databases (e.g., user profiles, user data, system data)
    • Telecom Protocols (e.g., SS7, ISUP, IS-41, TCAP, SMPP)
    • Networking Protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, SMPP, etc.)
    • Voice Applications (e.g., recorded announcements, recorded prompts, etc.)
    • Trunking interfaces (i.e., ISUP, T1, E1 and PRI)
    • IP Credit and Debit Card services
    • Billing and Logging

  • OSP Applications

OSP applications include: Wireless Prepaid, Visual Voice Mail, Policy and Charging Rules Functions, Real-Time Signalling Media Gateway, Loyalty, Data Services, USSD Services, SMSC, Rich Communication Suite, MMS, OTA, EIR and etc. Click here to see the product brouchures.

For 3rd Party developers the OSP Middleware is the starting point. With Primal's APIs, developers can use the Primal Open Services Platform to develop their own applications that can operate in conjunction with or independently from Primal's existing services.
